It is a beautiful town with continuous pedestrian zone. All attractions, including Celle castle, can be reached on foot. It was the first town in North Germany to be named a sustainable destination.
Things to Do in Celle
1. Celle Castle
Celle Castle (1292) with its Residenz museum is one of the most beautiful castles of the Royal House of Hanover in Germany. Celle as a Baroque royal seat, place of exile of the Danish queen Caroline Mathilde, summer residence of the kings of Hanover in the 19th century. The castle theatre is the oldest existing example of a Baroque theatre in Germany.
It was the first impression of town, when I’s walking through the Old Town. This castle looks amazing in sunny and brighter days and surround by water canals.
2. Old Town Hall
The old town hall in Celle is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful buildings in the city of Celle. It was built in 1292, when Duke Otto the Strict built the city according to his plans and is until today an impressive testimony of the Dukes of Celle. Celle Town Hall, one of the oldest buildings in the city, consists of two parts. The older part rises above the Ratskeller with its Gothic ribbed vault.
It is always a good and exciting feeling to see these historic halls of the old cities and had a experience about it.
3. Bomann-Museum
Situated right opposite Celle Castle, the Bomann Museum is one of the biggest and most important museums in Niedersachsen, Germany. An introductory chronology and a ten-minute film offer visitors a first overview of the history of the town and county of Celle. Generally, I avoid museum visit in any part of the world. But I tried this museum and found totally different. Also, the museum hosts special cultural and historical exhibitions.
4. Oldest House: Hoppener Haus
It is the most famous half-timbered house in Celle. It is undoubtedly the most magnificent of all the Half-timbered houses in the old town. Six storey over the top of each other in gable. The Hoppener house, built in 1532, is located on Poststrasse/Rundestrasse. This house looks and eye-catching as looks different from others.
Apart from this, There are many old coffee shops in this old town. I tried one coffee shop, which was almost full and taste was good.
I love the architecture of this old town. Always a good idea to visit these old cities of Europe where I found something different from the whole world. As, Modernization is on the top, so every old thing is look like amazed.
